This training introduces foster parents to the principles and practices of parenting from a strengths-based perspective. Rooted in the belief that every child has innate strengths and internal resources, this approach shifts the focus from correcting deficits to identifying and building upon what is already strong within a child. Parents will learn how to recognize and nurture these strengths, even in the face of challenging behaviors or difficult parenting moments. Rather than reacting to negative behavior alone, foster parents are encouraged to find the “hidden positives” — the underlying capabilities or unmet needs that can become opportunities for growth and connection. Through practical strategies and real-life examples, the training offers tools to:

• Understand and respond to disruptive behavior through a lens of empathy and strength

• Support children in applying their unique strengths to daily challenges

• Build resilience and self-awareness in both parent and child

• Strengthen relationships through affirming and empowering interactions
