Grief in Foster Care: When Others Are Causing My Grief
May 09, 2024 • 8pm - 9pm
Sometimes we can feel as foster parents that we are the only ones without a voice. We can feel as though DFCS, biological parents, or other service providers are causing more grief. There will be discussions on what solutions work for others and how to strengthen your faith in the midst of the chaos.
Creating a TBRI® Environment
May 14, 2024 • 7-9pm EDT
TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research. TBRI® is designed for children from “hard places” such as abuse, neglect, and/or trauma. Because of their histories, it is often difficult for these children to trust the loving adults in their lives, which often results in perplexing behaviors. TBRI® offers practical tools for caregivers, or anyone who works with children, to see the “whole child” in their care and help that child reach his highest potential.
Am I Even Making a Difference?
May 16, 2024 • 8-9pm EDT
Whether you have had a child or children in your home for a short period of time or a long period of time. Or whether this is your first placement or 10th placement plus. You may look at your role as foster parent and feel that you see on changes in the foster child, biological parents, system, or anything you’re doing. Sometimes being a foster parent is a hard, thankless job that doesn’t seem to produce fruit. Even without realizing it you may have had hopes and expectations of impacting even just one person when you started this journey but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Come find hope and support with other foster parents to see that God is working even if you don’t see it and you are doing kingdom work even if you never see fruit.
TBRI® Learning Circle
May 29, 2024 • 6-8pm EDT
A Learning Circle is a group where all participants explore a topic of discussion and learn from each other in the process. In each Learning Circle, a different TBRI-related topic will be covered. Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a framework for trauma responsive caregiving. It often gives hope and healing to caretakers struggling with challenging behaviors. However, sometimes TBRI can be challenging to implement when first learning. In each course we will Evaluate, Elaborate, Engage & Explore.
W.I.S.E. Up
June 08, 2024 • 9am-12pm EDT
When it comes to handling questions and comments about adoption and foster care, kids need to be empowered to decide how they want to respond. This course will help parents teach these skills to the children in their homes. For children in transracial or transcultural families, these intrusive questions can begin as early as age three: "Why don't you look like your mom?" For others, the questions come later: "Why were you adopted?" and "Where are your real parents?" When the questions begin, W.I.S.E. Up! helps with the answers.

I Do Not Agree with This
June 20, 2024 • 8-9pm
You home and love these children and advocate for them while in your care. Much of what happens and the decisions being made are out of your control and you may not agree with. You may not be included in decision making and have to “accept” where a case is going. Let’s discuss how to cope and move forward even when you’re not in agreement with the plan being pursued.
